Hey mama! You’re in for a treat today. This sloppy joe recipe will take you back to your childhood and give you a dose of the past. This recipe is such an easy meal to make for the family during the week. Running late at work and need a quick meal, this is it? Don’t know what to cook and need something simple, here you go? But be warned, this meal will get messy! So arm your family with some bibs and paper towels and get ready to dig in!

sloppy joes

I wish I could remember the first time I had a sloppy joe, but I can remember how much I loved it. I remember it being a bite of sloppy goodness. Sweet, tangy, and messy. I also remember it coming from a can, which kind of freaks me out now. Beef in a can…just thinking about it sounds weird. But today, no worries, this recipe is homemade and fresh. No cans to open, all you need is a pan, spoon, and 5 ingredients! Quick and easy to get you in and out of the kitchen in no time.

How To Make

Alrighty, this is going to be quick and to the point. To a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, stirring often. Transfer the cooked ground beef to a colander and drain the juices. Turn the heat down to medium low and return the ground beef back to the pan and stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard. Let this simmer for 5 minutes stirring occasionally. After 5 minutes or so, remove the pan from the heat. Now it’s time to start assembling the sandwiches. Make sure to put a generous amount of beef mixture on the buns and once the sandwiches are made, you and the family have permission to make a mess!

This is a great recipe to make with your kids. It’s an easy recipe if you are starting to teach your kids how to cook. They can help to measure out ingredients and if old enough, they can make the entire meal with supervision of course! Make this a fun activity with the family, you never know, this may become an amazing family memory.
